As an extension this year's Entheogenesis Australis, mycologist Caine Barlow will be running a fungi culture masterclass based around fungi conservation. The workshop will be approximately 5 hours in duration.
There are numerous strategies we can use to help in the collection of funga population data, and then the preservation of fungi from our environment. Recording observations on iNaturalist, the collection of specimens for the herbarium*, and the creation of fungi cultures for future fungariums.
(* collection with permission from the landowner from private land, and on a permit from public land is required)
In previous EGA workshops, we have worked through how to do tissue cultures for conservation and/or cultivation of fungi. This will be a hands-on workshop, focusing on working with spore prints, tissue culture or environmental culture strategies, cleaning up mycelium, liquid culture, then creating spawn, and bulk substrates.
Takeaways from the workshop will include, agar plates, liquid cultures, spawn, and buckets
This event will be limited to 18 tickets
